Saffron comes from the fall blooming flower of the Crocus Sativus. It is harvested from October to November and dried mainly for seasoning and colouring for culinary.

Saffron has also been suggested to be effective in treatment of a wide range of ailments. It has shown benefits for treating mental health disorders, such as depression, anxiety, and ADHD. Saffron is also has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant compounds which can provide benefits in protecting a person from cancer and heart disease.

The Flavour: The aroma and flavor is one that is hard to describe. Fresh saffron smells sweet like fresh cut hay with a flora aroma. The flavor is slightly bitter with the sweet taste of honey. Saffron is very unique in the way that everyone experiences the aroma and taste differently.

How To Use: To use saffron it must be infused in to a liquid to bring out its flavour and aroma. This can be accomplished three different ways: Dissolving ground saffron in a couple of tablespoons of water OR steep it in water or milk (like a tea), OR adding directly to a dish which has a lot of liquid and take time to cook.
